The Dubai Artificial Intelligence Festival takes place at the Dubai World Trade Centre next Monday and Tuesday. Over 20,000 visitors from more than 100 countries are expected at the event, including some 200 speakers and a similar number of exhibitors. There is an interesting agenda with talks on all kinds of topics, including a fireside chat by Sanjog Gupta, CEO of the International Cricket Council, and Anish Shivdasani of Roland Berger on "The next innings: how AI is changing the way fans experience cricket."
The Festival is organised by the Dubai AI Campus which hosts the largest cluster of artificial intelligence companies in the Middle East and North Africa. The Campus was opened in the DIFC Innovation Hub by Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime and Minister of Defence in the United Arab Emirates' federal government on 4 June 2024 (see "Hamdan bin Mohammed inaugurates Dubai AI Campus cluster at the DIFC Innovation Hub" 4 June 2024). The UAE was ranked 25th in the WIPO Global Innovation Index 2026 rankings.
The Dubai International Financial Centre recently overhauled its intellectual property laws (see Jane Lambert, Introduction to, and Overview of, the New DIFC Intellectual Property Law 11 Dec 2019). Intellectual property owners can seek redress for infringement through the DIFC's English-speaking common law courts or the Intellectual Property Commissioner's summary procedure (see Jane Lambert
"Enforcing Intellectual Property Rights in the DIFC" 8 Dec 2023).Anyone wishing to discuss this article or Emirati IP law generally should call me on +44 (0)20 7404 5252 during UK office hours or send me a message through my contact form at any time.
